The Story

Claire and Jason have been together for a number of years in Los Angeles, but long-simmering problems and an irresistible job offer are taking her to New York City.  We find Claire and Jason, however, after all this has happened: in his small hatchback on the way to the airport.

Unsure of what to discuss, but obviously apprehensive about the end of their relationship, Jason nervously skirts topics of age and marriage while Claire darts any mention of their painful split.  Jason and Claire encounter a number of familiar obstacles provided by the airport: an airline mixup, a surly flight attendant and a super-friendly ticket agent, all of which pale to Los Angeles’ mood-altering Santa Ana’s, which never fail to raise temperatures and emotions.

Step 1

If you are traveling in Los Angeles in the early fall, you my experience some discomfort from the warm Santa Ana winds blowing from the east.

Step 2

When such winds occur, natives of Los Angeles often find themselves short-tempered, cranky, and borderline delusional. Relationships can crumble under the heat.

Step 3

In the event that Jason takes Claire, his long-time girlfriend, to LAX so that she can permanently move to New York, it is likely that an emergency relationship exit situation will occur.

Step 4

Please do not panic. Your flight crew is highly trained to deal with such emergencies, but are rendered useless when it comes to the reality of human relationships.
